Turning our house into a home...

This post was called "I'm the world's most indecisive person and looking at more homes just makes thing worse..."

But now it's titled "OMG! We're going to make an offer tomorrow!"

I went house hunting with Brad today and found a lot of good stuff... and some really awful stuff. House 1 and 2 from my "house hunting online" post were both VERY nice. Here is a little recap of those...

House 1:

This is the floorplan. This is the same layout as the giant house with the daylight basement that we looked at last week minus the basement. The house was very nice. It was barely lived in. A single girl lives there now. She is moving because she is in the Air Force and well, that's the nature of the job. She is after my heart with paint. There is a lovely green accent wall in the living/dining room and the master bedroom is a really pretty blue. this house also has a HUGE backyard that is enclosed by a white vinyl fence.

House 2:

This house had a very interesting floorplan that I have never seen before. There was a sweet old man there having an estate sale. He and his wife are moving because she has alzheimers and they want a warmer climate. They added a lot to the house. They expanded the patio and put an aluminum roof over it. They built a storage shed outside with power! The back yard is HUGE. There is a front "living room" and in the back there is a "great room" that includes the kitchen, dining room and family room with 2-sided gas fireplace. It is very open. They also took out the one-piece shower in the master bathroom and replaced it with a fully tiled shower. They also tiled the backsplash in the kitchen and put a ceiling fan over the kitchen counter. Overall, it was a beautiful house, but I had a hard time envisioning Mike and I living there, with all the "old people" stuff already there.

After we left each house, Brad had me nickname the houses and write any notes on the printouts that he ad given me. House 1 became "painted walls", house 2 became "marine or astroturf" (due to the astroturf covering the front porch). Other houses we saw include "stinky dog house", "icky smoker house", and "I think the people that lived here did meth".

We also drove through, I think, every new community in Medical Lake, Cheney, and Airway Heights. If we were to build, I think we would do so in a community called "Crystal Meadows" in Cheney. It had a very California/Nevada feel. All the homes had stucco siding. That isn't something that you see in Spokane. We walked through one house that was for sale, but it was unfinished and it was hard to envision the finished product. Fortunately, they had a model home/sales office THAT WAS GORGEOUS! All the homes in Crystal Meadows have white trim (which I love since living in this apartment), 6-panel doors, and A/C! They also have a lot of lots (hehehehe) available. We could build in a cul-de-sac!
There is a golf course nearby, but also a truck stop and industrial area... Crystal Meadows has a lot going for it, but I''m not completely sold. Check it out for yourself...

I like the "1396" floorplan and the "1550".

The 1396 would require some layout changes. I would turn bedroom 4 into a dining room by taking out the wall/closet adjacent to the family room. Then I would shorten the kitchen and add cabinets/counter space to the wall adjacent to the master suite. I would also extend the laundry out into the garage to make a room out of it. I am not a fan of laundry "closets". The master bedroom is also kind of small. This plan may require too many changes...

the 1550 is very similar to "the Washington" floorplan that I've fallen in love with at Fox Ridge. I think if we were to build at "Crystal Meadows", this is more likely what we would go with. But I would take them "the washington" floorplan to see if they could make the kitchen/dining/living room flow more like that. I also like the very large master suite.

Another nice thing about living in Cheney, is that it is a little closer to Spokane, but still SUPER close to Medical Lake.

So, I bet you're wondering about the offer we're going to make tomorrow...

Brad called me this evening to tell me that the buyers he took out after me are interested in "the Washington"! OH NO'S!! He told them that he already had a buyer that was interested and first in line (that's us).... Earlier today I told him that that was still my first choice, but I'd like to see the builder put in A/C. He didn't think they would do both A/C and pay closing costs for $174,900. But when he called this evening, he said he thought an offer of $180k to include closing costs and A/C would be a solid bet. But before I offer, I'm taking my parents out to Crystal Meadows in the morning to see if they think we should forego 'the washington" and skip straight to building in Cheney...

Keep your fingers crossed that the builder accepts our offer and this whole process is over.....
